Craniosacral Therapy Research Assignments and Informational Handout

I took my first CST class in March 2020, and I have been incorporating it into my practice of bodywork ever since. I have continued in the CST coursework and practice , obtaining skills in whole body evaluation, mouth work for sinus and TMJ problems, working with chronic depletion and resiliency, and emotional resolution.

In Spring 2022, I took HCR 341 - Biological, Manipulative, and Body-Based Therapies with Dr. Tara Swartz at ASU. This is a presentation  and informational handout I created on Craniosacral Therapy (CST) for that course. I delved into a bit of the history, the philosophy, what craniosacral therapy is, how it is performed, and some other interesting information. In this presentation, I focused specifically on the therapy developed by Dr. John Upledger, but there are many schools of craniosacral therapy with different styles and techniques.

CST is a whole body therapy with a focus on releasing tensions within and upon the central nervous system, ie the brain and spinal cord. When these structures are free of restrictions and tensions, they are also free to facilitate the innate healing capabilities each of our bodies hold. The light touch nature of this therapy lends itself to be nurturing, relaxing, non-intrusive, and safe for most people.
